Wburg.TV :: Vol. 1, No. 3.1

Vol. 1, No. 3.1 - What a ride!

It's amazing to be able to promote the videoblogging motion picture folks I've come to know and respect from around the planet, but more amazing as local creators begin to submit their materials for inclusion in the Wburg Brooklyn video magazine that Wburg.TV becomes.

Took the lessons 11211 Magazine taught to heart, most particularly its editorial policy and total commitment to the art and commerce of 11211.

My goal with Wburg.tv Vol. 1, Nos. 1 and 2 was to inspire folks to ask, "WTF?"

Done.

It's easy to vlogvertise with us. Really.

Shoot something you love with your cell phone - a video or still. Send us a scan of a drawing you made. Send us a link to some music you recorded. Record us a song to your phone. We're not interested in perfection, but passion. Oh, passion and 11211, the zip code for Williamsburg, Brooklyn, County of Kings, USA.

Email: WburgTV@gmail.com

If you need to learn how to get your stuff to us from your phone or computer, we'll teach you how. It's not difficult in the least. A first step in learning is found at FreeVlog.org. Check it out.

Thanks to Jen - for helping prepare for the launch party; and to Quirk - for coming.

Prudential Douglas Elliman Real Estate

Proud and happy to present our first vlogvertising effort for Prudential Douglas Elliman Real Estate.

The best vlogvertising comes from love and I most certainly fell in love with Michael and his best pal, Beverly, while making this vlogvert.

Falling in love is the future of advertising.

Made with love by Wburg.tv and The Faux Press.

Vibrant Blogging :: Apartment Therapy

ApartmentTherapy.com

From their mission statement:
Helping people to make their apartments better places to live.
The site's vibrant with comments on their excellent ideas for stuff-reduced living, low-cost decorating, and design.

How does a site come to be 'vibrant'?

Contests are a popular means toward that end. ApartmentTherapy.com has their own Smallest, Coolest Apartment Contest. Voting ends May 6, 2007, people, and one of the entrants - Rachel - is from Williamsburg. Vote for Rachel HERE.

Their goal is:
To connect people to the resources they need to redecorate their home, while reducing their reliance on stuff.
Monetization:
  • A one-week text link goes for $165. Buy a month for $575. No Google Juice.
  • A hand-coded text ad (for Google Juice) requires a 3-month commitment
  • Stats:
    • 17,000 unique users / day
    • 190,000 page views / day
  • Contest prizes from designers and providers of the stuff of home decorating
Authority. It helps to establish 'authority' if you have a book to hawk. ApartmentTherapy does: "apartment therapy : the eight-step home cure"

Niche. One way to go niche is to be geocentric. Apartment therapy is regional, having split the country into five regions.

Patience. Apartment therapy's been around since April 2004.

I'm surprised they haven't incorporated video into their bag-o-tricks.

Wburg.TV's going to incorporate a contest - a film festival - into our bag o' tricks come autumn. Keep yer eyes peeled. $35K in prizes.

Go tell it on the mountain

Nine steps to create a successful vlogvertising campaign.

Step 1:
Explain to your vlogvertiser how vlogvertising will generate more business
for their business. This seems simple enough but is rather complex. More
often than not your vlogvertiser will not understand vlogvertising and will
find it similar to explaining to an advertiser that advertising it a worthwhile
endeavor. This is noted is the (alt.) ixiom :: "It pays to Vlogvertise".
To vlogvertise is to economize so, choose your words carefully.
Good Luck.

A Meditation on Vlogvertising :: Francois Truffaut

"The film of tomorrow will not be directed by civil servants of the camera, but by artists for whom shooting a film constitutes a wonderful and thirlling adventure...it will be enjoyable because it will be true and new...the film of tomorrow will be an act of love." -Francois Truffaut
This quote comes courtesy of Brian Gonzalez, one of Wburg.TV's intrepid film makers.

When I spoke to my father about what I was up to with vlogvertising, he pointed me to this Forbes piece on the subject of marketing:

"Great brands and great companies have been built on the back of mass media. You fill your funnel with attention and slowly turn that attention into cash. Traditionally that's how marketers convert strangers into customers. Whoever has the biggest funnel wins. TV is a great funnel filler, and so is direct mail. For a while it even seemed that Internet banners would keep the attention coming, cheaper and cheaper, in large volume. Best of all, you could control just about every element of the process.

"Bad news for control freaks everywhere: Your funnel is broken and you're not in charge anymore."
Yup.

Forbes' first advice is to, "...Flip the funnel; turn it into a megaphone. But not as a device to yell at people who don't want to hear from you. Instead, hand the megaphone to your best customers, who can help turn their friends and colleagues into your new best customers."

This comment made me giggle: "The biggest mistake marketers make when they see the power of the consumer network is that they try to control it, own it or manipulate it."

Yup.

Forbes writer Seth Godin finishes with this:

"Great companies don't push, they lead."

Yup.

The easiest way to lead is to have a great product / business and love it.

Grand Relax Girls

Grand Relax girls.

Nothing like a buck-a-minute chair massage to transform a stressful day right back to perfect.

The day I shot my first ever vlogvertising commercial for The Lodge restaurant (right down the street @ Havemeyer) I went there (at Bi-Offal's suggestion) with composer Andrew Shapiro for a ten-minute attitude adjustment.

Andrew was tense 'cause I'd interviewed him. There's no doubt that interviews are stressful, even if it's with the Faux Press. I was tense with excitement from the bump up to official commercial vlogger.

The women are professional and sweet.

Aaaah.
